How many marks are required in interview to get job in IBPS PO-3?
“After a Storm Comes a Calm” – said Mathew Henry. But this
may not be true with aspirants who have given their attempt to any of the
competitive examinations. For them, it’s quite different, I would quote it as, “Storm
before and after the calm (exam).” The reason why I refer so is that many
aspirants before giving their exams storm in several sites and Facebook group
asking for question papers, notes etc., and once the exam is completed they
storm predicting the cut off and once the results are released they storm
discussing the possibility of getting the job and this is what has happened
after IBPS has released the marks and cut off for the post of PO for the year
2013-14.
What am I going to tell new about IBPS PO 3?
- The first and foremost is that, at the end of this article the aspirants will be confident that almost all have chance to clear the interview and get allotted in various banks irrespective of the marks they scored.
- How date of birth may play a vital role in determining your posts?
- Why there is no use in discussing/predicting cut off online?
If you wish to know
answers for the above mentioned, I advise you to read further. The below claims
made my are based on data collected from IBPS and other authentic sources
(related to past experience).
Cut off in IBPS PO 3 and chances in Interview
IBPS has released its
mark statement and cut off on 07.12.2013. Once the marks are released, almost
all blogs and Facebook groups started flooding with a common question. And the
questions are,
“Sir, I have scored 64 in UR, what is the chance that I will clear?”
“I have scored just 62 in OBC, I think I have less chance. What’s your opinion?”
“Unbelievable, I have scored 99 in UR. What is my chance?” – (To these people I would say there is no chance as they either make to fun of others or they are bookworms.)
The one word answer
to all these questions is that, everyone who got their call to interview have
chance to get allotment. The one with more marks have bright chance and one
with less marks need to perform well in interview. But how do I say? Am I
preaching confident development? Of course I am, but not just with assumptions
but with real data.
I am going to compare
the data’s of IBPS PO 2 and IBPS PO 3, for coming into a conclusion. I am going
to compare last year cut off, final marks for allotment in both phases and
student to vacancy ratio.
What will be the ratio of candidates called for interview?
It should be 1:3. It
means 3 candidates for 1 post. This is because in IBPS PO 2, there were around
21000 vacancies approximately and 60 thousand candidates have cleared the
examination (last year common interview was decided after declaration of
result, so we are not sure how many among the 60k missed their ticket to
interview, but for data classification we will assume all the 60k candidates were
called.) Similarly this year around, 57000 candidates have cleared (approximate
value said by IBPS personnel when contacted via toll free number - @courtesy – Ramandeep Singh- bankexamtoday). If you wish, you can cross verify in this toll free number
1800 222 366 between 9.30 AM and 6.00 PM and the vacancies are expected to be
same as we have additional institutions recruiting this year compared to last
year (apart from Mahila Bank, which recruited 105
women candidates at the year end).So we can confirm that the ratio is 1:3 this
year too. Many claim that due to incomplete filling in IBPS PO1, we had many vacancies
in PO2. It is true to some extent, but the same difference will be balanced
with the new organisations, unfilled vacanices after round 2 of allotment and also the branches have increased for all banks
so the demand for more PO is always there. However this ratio may change later once the attendance of interview and pass percentage in interview is known. At the final stage it almost comes to 1:2.
This chart can be
otherwise said as the marks obtained by the last selected candidate in various
categories who are called for interview.

Marks of PO 1 is not considered as it didn't have common interview, also there is no use in comparing the cut off of IBPS-2 and IBPS-3 as the number of candidates attended and the difficulty level were comparatively higher. The above table is just to give a glimpse of the lowest marks of each category with which candidates went for interview in 2012 and to compare that with this year marks. The above mentioned marks is out of 250 in PO2 and 200 in PO 3, which is later converted to 80 while calculating the component from written examination.

- Min Marks - it is the least marks of IBPS P0 -2 for various category.
- Final Marks - it is mark scored by the last selected candidate in various category, after calculating the 80% component of written and 20% component of interview which is conducted for 100 marks.
- 80% of CWE - It is the 80% component carried forward by the least mark candidate to next stage.
- Required 20% - It is the 20% marks required for a candidate to get into the list of merit.
- Marks required - It is the marks required by the candidate who went to the interview with the least mark to get qualified in the phase 1 of allotment.
Interpretation of above data
- Marks required by UR in interview is 94.6, which is quite high. The reason for the same is many candidates in reservation who scored good marks enter into this zone. In other words toppers are in this zone irrespective of reservation which keeps the cut off high. This is the same reason why the required marks in reservation is considerably low.
- This year it is expected from the marks revealed by candidates in various forums, most of the candidates are expected to be in the bracket of 65 to 80.
- The marks revealed online by various candidates cannot be considered for coming to a conclusion in deciding the safe zone, as many give a fake claim and even if they are true they form a less portion. Hardly 200 to 300 give their scores and you cannot predict the same for 57000 candidates. One good example is that many forums predicted above 80 cut off and now it is 61. However the graph is almost similar to last year and the safe marks in interview will work out this year too.
Maximum and minimum marks in allotment process in phase -2 (IBPS PO – 2)
The above mentioned data is for the first allotment, after many candidates failed to join another round of allotment was made and the below table gives the minimum final marks for which candidates are called. This marks can also be said as the marks scored by the last selected candidate who got allotted in IBPS PO-2 .

So what does the above table indicate, it is very clear that everyone who got selected for interview has chance to get allotted to some bank irrespective of marks. The above mentioned marks is the minimum required in interview for a candidate who went with the least mark in various categories.
Why second allotment in IBPS PO-2?
Many candidates who selected in first allotment did't turn back to join the allotted bank due to multiple reasons and to fill this shortage waiting list candidates were called for next round of allotment.
How many vacancies were there is second allotment?
I am sure you will be in surprise, if you never heard before. Totally 5806( UR-3080; OBS - 1431; SC-794; ST-501; VI-111;HI-166; OC-70) candidates didn't join the allotted bank in round 1. It is almost 27% of the total vacancies. It is also sure that all these 5806 were not filled as many refused in this stage too. The left over seats were carried forward to this year allotment.
Why candidates refuse to join?
Allotment is made on all India basis, many candidates prefer home state, so when they are allotted in other states they refuse to join. Some candidates (particularly women candidates) have requested for allotment in home state showing genuine reason for not able to join in other state. They were allotted in home state in second round. One of my friend who was 9 months pregnant during allotment was allotted in Dena bank (Mumabi branch) in allotment 1, she gave a request showing the same, to offer her allotment in Chennai. She was allotted in Syndicate bank, Chennai in the second allotment and above that she was asked to undergo initial one month training in Chennai itself where others had their training in Manipal. Some claim it is because of some political backup, but I know her personally and it was a genuine request. Apart from this many candidates who already employed also refuse, but this percentage will be less compared to the above.
Date of Birth and final allotment
Compared to last year the gap in score between many candidates is very narrow as many stand in the zone of 65 to 80. I assume that in the final stage many may stand with the same marks. In this case banks have a soft corner towards seniors and the list when score is same will be decided on the basis of age. The same was done last year too.
Why there is no use in discussing cut off and other predictions online?
Many sites give claim based on their assumptions. In fact most of the times it didn't work out. During SBI PO, almost all sites predicted cut off around 110 for UR, but it was above 160. The same happened with SSC CGL and also now with IBPS PO 3. So do not waste your time in discussing all these useless things online as they are of no use.
Just think about it : What if a candidate has less score, but has incredible skills which he expresses during interview? I am sure he will be brought into the merit list by awarding marks accordingly. This has happened with many candidates. But may be they may not get the bank and state of their choice. So keep this and above data in mind. Ensure yourself that you still have a good chance. Start preparing for interview. I wish everyone of you to move ahead in life getting the bank of your wish.
Give your honest feedback, comments, criticisms and corrections if any which will be valuable and help other candidates in future.

Hi Ganesh,
ReplyDeleteJust saw your comment on my blog, you did lots of effort but in this research you concentrated on previous year's result whereas marking system and scenario have been changed. Further number of candidates also increased. So I don't feel like sharing this.
Keep it up :)
Thank you Mr. Ramandeep Singh for your reply, even though you didn't share the content. I agree that marking system has changed now compared to last year, but it is in CWE not in Interview. I compared both scores to give idea that everyone has chance to clear irrespective. Thank you again for reading and commenting back.
DeleteHello sir i have 40% in graduation they can through me out in interve coz of less marks or thy will consider my written n interview marks
DeleteLogically compiled data and information of previous year PO exam which leads us to encouragement upto some extent.Thanx....
ReplyDeleteThank you for your feedback.
Deletesir,i appreciate your efforts in clearing the doubts....thanks.........also sir there is one question,i am from physiotherapy background doing private practice,is that counted as work experience and sir wat questions can i expect in interview and the way to approach them..........pls help sir, just reading basic banking and awareness would be sufficient
ReplyDeleteFormal 1 or 2 question may arise from your previous experience, if it is not related to banking. One common question is why you need to shift from physiotherapy to Banking. However your experience will not be counted as both are no where related to each other.
DeleteThanks for huge information.. I want to know how much marks did they usually provide in interview.
ReplyDeleteAverage Marks.
90 and above too is possible if you can express your knowledge in your answers and also by showing your confident by the way you sit and by the way you talk. Talking in sense not very aggressively nor saying sorry for everything. The former shows that you are over confident and later will show that your lacking confidence. Ultimately you need to convince that your presence in the bank will be useful by one way or other. Combination of above mentioned all should give you 90, if not 80 for sure.
DeleteTHANKS GANESH !!
ReplyDeleteIam a GEN CANDIDATE... got 79 /200 score in IBPS-PO/MT-3 !
I ws feeling very down...
but nw aftr reading ur post I think I can fightback....
thanks AGAIN !
JATIN(LUCKNOW)
Good Luck. Prepare Well.
DeleteWaah Bhai Jatin Dua badhiya score hai tera!! Good Keep it up!!
DeleteGood Analysis...much better than any other blogger
ReplyDeleteThank you for the feedback. It values.
Deleteu said that left over seats of IBPS PO II are added in this year exam...what is your source of info??
ReplyDeleteI didn't say that left over were added, I just said it MAY be added. The reason is more than 5000 seats were left after first allotment and one can be very sure that not all will be filled. IBPS has also issued a notice regarding subsequent allotment after round 2 (you can check that in IBPS site) stating that that no further allotment will be made. So it is very sure that left over vacancies, even if they are marginal will be added this year. I would like to give another example, last year many RRB's after filling PO happened to lose their allotted candidates as many resigned once PO allotment was done. So during that time it was said that they have to add the left over seats next year even after calling the waiting list candidates.[ You can file RTI to the bank which had maximum vacancies in second allotment asking them, how many were filled and what they are going to do with the unfilled seats].
DeleteThe above article was very helpfull........thanks a lot
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome.
DeleteAmazingly done sir...just a thing..please enlighten your readers about the TWSS thing last year which did not happened this time around..this time only the marks were marginally adjusted as per the difficulty level of the exams conducted on six different days..because of this people are apprehensive that since cut off is very low this time (61/200 as compared to 135/250) so there will be many rejections..which is not the case..as that "135" is not an absolute score rather a weighted score..so the selection ratio continues to be 1:3...although i would like to add a caveat to it that there is no official data to corroborate this claim...a RTI at this stage would be redundant as there will be a standard reply that they can't dispel any information until the final selection is done...and as far as the IBPS helpline goes..they too can't confirm anything...and yes i would like to reiterate that "EVERYBODY WHO HAS CLEARED WRITTEN STAND A DECENT CHANCE OF MAKING THE FINAL CUT"
ReplyDeleteIn an unrelated issue i asked an IBPS query to Ramandeep Sir through his blog but he chose not to reply...i do hope that you will manage some time for the same and point out errors, if any
Warm Regards,
An Eternal Optimist :)
First of all thank you for your feedback. You are absolutely right that this time absolute score is taken rather than weighed score. TWSS was not done this time. But what implications do you think that it is going to make on candidates? Even in fact the difference between scores of candidates has got narrow compared to previous year. I mean to say that most of the candidates fall in the region of 65 to 80 (a difference of 15 marks). You are also right that we cannot blindly tell that the ratio is 1:3 as there is no official data. In fact when we consider the reservation, the ratio will be more for UR as many reservation candidates will also fall into this category and the same may be less when we go down the order. The 1:3 ratio which I mentioned is something without considering the reservation. The ratio 1:2 which I said in the later part of the article is after removing the candidates who didn't turn to interview and others who failed in interview. This is also an assumption, which happens usually in all exams. This may turn wrong, if there is 100% attendance and more candidates cross the minimum threshold in interview.
DeleteFinally coming to the RTI, it was in last December Central Information Commission, has declared IBPS as a public authority. But still there is no suo motto disclosure from them. One option is that we can file an RTI to department of financial services requesting the same, it is their duty to forward it to concern authority. I don't think they will not give information like no of candidates passed, ratio called upon for interview as they no where going to hurdle the process of selection in further stage unless and until any irregularities are there.
I have already made a draft RTI requesting these details and I have planned to send it directly to IBPS in the address mentioned by them in contact page in the site. Let me wait for 30 days, if not I will proceed ahead as they are now supposed to give information as they were already made public authority.
If I missed to answer anything. Post a reply, I will get back to it.
Agree!!!!
DeleteAnd a very straight point is there which i would like to mention.....
.why they (ibps) have called a 61 marks student or a border line performer.....bcoz they have done their calculation.....according to their past experiance they know that even the cutoff qualified student has a chance to get selected in final list....
Nd no body can say % of chances when students asks such questions on diffrent sites bcoz whatever they have scored but we dont know them persnly how good they are....so keeping it simple nd start perparing for interview is the best thing anybody can do...
Bang on Anonymous (9th December @ 1:25 pm) but somehow people are too worried about a 'safe score'..
DeleteTo Ganesh Sir..All inquisitions answered..Thankfully it was an interaction and not a monologue which is the case in many other blogs..Waiting for the interviews to commence..Keep up the good work sir..
Warm Regards,
An Eternal Optimist :)
first of all thank u for such an effort..
ReplyDeletewill u now please guide all the aspirants regarding interview.what to concentrate on and all other details taking into account the past po2 interviews..
I am planning to come out with a article in the same. Please wait for some time. Meanwhile, other readers can share their ideas and views regarding interview.
DeleteSir write a comment about this year chance of rrb gbo vacancies.. im shortlisted 4 intervw..not get scorecard... im really worried.. my mom also...
Deletethanks sir. I am from himachal. Obtained only72 BUT rrb po i scored 130. Thanks for motivation.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck
DeleteHello Sir, Thank you for the Information, I want to ask that i did B.Tech in Information Technology.
ReplyDeleteSo, during interview (PO III) whether they ask question from my subject or banking awareness or both?
In short please give me guideline for Interview ! :)
When I gave RRB PO interview they concluded my interview by asking question in chemistry which is very basic. It depends on the board and if someone in the board is expert in IT there is chance that he may ask 1 or 2 question from IT. But I am sure it will be very basic question. Because you are not recruited for specialist officer, but for PO. Prepare yourself with respect to banking and areas of current affairs which is more or less related with any of the activities of banking. I will come out with a article very soon about basic guideline for interview. Keep following.
DeleteThank you Sir............!!!!
ReplyDeleteGod Bless You........!!!! :)
Hi Ganesh,
ReplyDeleteI have few questions in my mind,
1.I did not do very well in my B.E. infact i cleared it in 7 years ( i skipped exams, although i was not a bad student).will it be a problem for me?
2.I have mentioned 55% in graduation though i hv got 56%
3.In PDC its mentioned that i hv completed my grad in JAN 2013 , but in the application i mentioned JUN 2013.
WILL THESE THINGHS BE A PROBLEM FOR ME??
I m from GEN category , marks- 82 (in po3) 132 (officer scale 1 RRB)
Do not worry about all these paper problems, unless and until you have given information which cannot be corrected. If someone has cleared his degree which is not approved or if he has claimed fake reservation then his candidature will be cancelled. Let me answer your questions point by point,
DeleteQuestion 1: It doesn't matter how many years you took, your ability is proved by you in the CWE. But prepare yourself to answer the same if a positive way if it is asked in interivew.
Question 2 : You can correct it during certificate verification.
Question 3: Same like above, you can correct it during certificate verification.
All the best.
Thank you so much..It means a lot to me.
DeleteGanesh Ji,
ReplyDeleteMinimum marks for UR category is 61, converting it to 80 it becomes 24.4
If the student even scores 80/100(the best) in interview, converting it becomes 16.
Final Total 24.4 + 16 = 40.4
For UR category someone gets 65, converting it to 80 it becomes 26
If the student even scores 80/100 in interview, converting it becomes 16.
Final Total 24.4 + 16 = 42
For UR category someone gets 70, converting it in 80 it becomes 28
If the student even scores 100/100 in interview, converting it becomes 16.
Final Total 24.4 + 20 = 44
The last person scored 62.12 in total for the final seat for last year PO, considering the above calculation(scoring max in interview) the final marks of person who scored anywhere between 61-70 in CWE would all be having the final marks(CWE + Interview) less than 45!!!
Do you think seriously that cut-off of merit list would be <45 & the person having a ( CWE score of 61-66) have a chance to get a final seat as Majority of people have scored between 70-90 in CWE this year???
because
Those with 70 in CWE have to score min 65 to sit above those in the merit list who got <62 in CWE.
Those with 75 in CWE have to score min 65 to sit above those in the merit list who got <66 in CWE.
I think people who have scored 61-68 in CWE do not have a chance to be above the cut-off in the merit list!!!!
First of all, how did you come to a conclusion that 80 will be the best? Secondly, I just compared last year marks and this year marks just to claim one strong point. However the calculations are made, everyone has chance. But last time TWSS was done giving a weighted score and this time it was absolute score. Because of this reason,in the very beginning of the article I have clearly mentioned that the difference this time will be NARROW and DOB may play a vital role atleast for a negligible amount of candidates.
DeleteYou have also questioned whether I am serious as final cut off will be less than 45. Why not if written cut off is just 30% even for UR? But it is true to some extent, that UR candidates will have tougher time and for them being in 61 to 68 will be crucial. Just on a softer side, is your score above 68?
Ganesh Ji,
DeleteI came to the 80 conclusion from your reply for a post above - "90 and above too is possible ........ if not 80 for sure"
My score is not above 68 but in the crucial zone of 61-68, that too 65!!!
It's just like " I passed yet still failed "
With 65 even if I score a 80(rarest chance) in interview my total score would be 42!!!
I don't think cut-off could be that low as max students are between 70-90 in CWE, for just 65 marks in interview they are sure to sit above those who have scored 61-68 + also would have given the best shot at interview(80/100)!!!!
For the final cut-off to be as low as 40 so that even the person scoring just 61 has a chance is nearly impossible.
I reiterate that those having 61-68 in CWE would have 1 in a million chance of making the merit list for UR category!!!!
Ganesh u r just an idiot. If IBPS is to give such high cut off for allotment then whats the use of making 61 as cutoff for written. Its a competition and even if u have score 61 and u r qualified u definitely have chance for allotment. Yes its sure that for score of 61 your interview marks should be above 80. The final cut off will be just above 40 marks.Note my words.
Delete@Sameera : Hey Genius (Self proclaimed), open ur eyes and read before commenting. Note my words. I haven't said it is impossible.
Deletesir u said ur friend was allotted home state in IInd allotment as she was 9 months pregnant and that means she was married at the time of examination and pregnant too and she should have clearly stated that at the time of interview about her difficulties to serve in another state but whenever a married women is allotted a branch she is allotted in a city where her husband is working and that I know personally as of my relatives are in psu banks and don't u think she must have gone through medical examination and she must be heavily pregnant at that time so don't u think the bank which was allotted to her must have known and ibps only allots bank not centres so looks doubtful as my father was also in govt.services
ReplyDeleteOf course me too in government services. Others who are also in government and banking services will we be very much aware that what happens in interview is not the same after you get allotted. I am not going to get anything just by giving fake information. To be very sure, she said to me that she got a beautiful baby girl in the last week of March, 2013. So I am very sure that she was pregnant during interview. Also in interview whether you can or cannot, everyone accepts all the conditions laid down. So she didn't reveal any of her difficulty to move to other states during the interview. But when she was allotted Dena Bank, she gave excuse stating the above mentioned reason. In the second allotment, she was given syndicate bank in Tamil Nadu. All those who got selected in syndicate bank took their initial training in Manipal, even for that she gave request to Syndicate bank. Her request was accepted and she was given training in Chennai (I do know what other training was going on that time). I have shared a true incident and its up to you to believe or not. After all in government/ banking services conditions are more before you join and not after.
Deleteno hard feeling but still I have doubt as to medical examination so wot abt that.
DeleteWhat's the problem with medical examination?
Deletewell I had doubt as some get rejected for medical grounds so ur friend might have gone thru that process and wot kind of medical examination is conducted by bank it is intensive as my relative said its just routine check up u go thru but I want to know how it is conducted and how branches are allotted by bank means there might be some criteria
Deletewhen u r going to come up article 4 interview
DeleteMedical is not that critical as it happens in defense or other police services. Allotment to branches purely depends on the needs of the bank and no prediction/calculation works here. But, many employees ask for transfer to particular branch in the later stage which is accepted too, but not in the initial stage except rare cases. Who know's influence too might play some role.
DeleteWell, with respect to the interview article, it will be out within this week. Just busy with my official schedule, I will make sure that it is posted within this week.
thanks
DeleteItz really a great effort for all aspirants....as i'm from UR category n i hav scored just 65 n i was feeling very low n even i've accepted that their would be no chance of getting allotment this year but after reading this blog m now encouraged to give my 100% in Common interview. rest is upto luck.. but still Thank u so much for guiding us in a positive direction...!
ReplyDeleteWhether some one accepts or not. I strongly believe irrespective of marks if a candidate is doing extremely well in interview convincing the interview board in all facets. He will be brought to the safe zone to assure a job. After all communication and human relation values more in bank compared to his knowledge.
DeleteExcellent Article...
ReplyDeleteI had went through many forums and posts regarding scores, expected cut-off, the so called "safe zone" to be allotted etc etc... Now after a glance at your article (especially second round allotments :),I feel that everyone who has qualified is in the so-called safe zone and it's just pure hardwork at the interviews which decide our fate. Thanks for the research and article!! (Score : 86/200 Gen )
Good Luck.
Deletehi Ganesh,
ReplyDeleteThanx for writing such a nice article to help candidates like us.
Request u to plz through some light on RRB GBO Scale 2. Plz provide some information for interview of both IBPS PO and IBPS RRB GBO.
Regards,
Rahul Shukla
I personally don't have idea about what will be asked in GBO Scale 2, any wrong information may misguide you. Regarding IBPS PO, I am coming out with article very soon. Keep tracking the page.
Deleteguys i think this time po3 interview + written cutoff cannot go above 44.2
ReplyDeleteyes GITA..... ur calculation is correct....iske upar to nahi jaani cuttoff...isse kam bhale hi chali jaaye...
DeleteJATIN
this is because every one is suppose to get interview call and the minimum marks is 61 for UR.so 80% of 61 comes out to be 24.4.now maximum marks that a candidate can get out of 100 in interview is 99.so 20% of 99 is 19.8.SO 19.8+24.4=44.2
ReplyDeleteThat's a fine calculation. If 44.2 is the total cutoff then what about this scenario? People who scored above 88 in written exam will have the total marks as ((88/200 * 100)=44 now itself. So even if they score pass mark in interview would they pass?
DeleteOn the lighter side, the topper ie. 135 (verified) must have got his/her total as 66.5 now itself.. So even with 0 in interview, that is job is secured :) :)
The topper has great chance, but the job is not secured as you mentioned.
DeleteFirst of all there is a minimum passing mark in interview too. It is 40% for UR and 35% for others. Hopefully he might do well in interview too, but he need a pass. Secondly, he need clear certificate verification which also plays a vital role. Any fake information might affect.
@gita :ur analysis of total cutoff not being more than44.4 is wrong.....since 61 marks cutoff was calculated to include 57000 applicants....but total cutoff will be decided to include just one third of them all........
DeleteWell well, very good article with facts & figures. Though a harder chance for the one's at the bottom, but still giving their best is recommended.
ReplyDeleteI have 92/200 and I'll try to give my best in the interview.
Good Luck
DeleteHello Ganesh Sir, I am a General candidate with 68 marks.I think that i have a small chance of just jumping into at least the second list if i do well in my interview. But what i want to know is how ibps arrive at the final cutoff,i mean after interview. So if they are willing to take even a candidate getting 61 marks who performs brilliantly in the interview, the cut off should be lesser than or equal to at least 42.4(i am taking 18/20 for interview ie 24.4+18 =42.4) rite ?? And another thing i want to know is whether all candidates above the final cut off has a chance in getting into the first list ?
ReplyDeleteI think most of you are confused with the previous year cut off. Whatever cut off for PO2 mentioned has no relevance with PO3 marks. PO2 Cut off was 135 out 250 and the final marks was calculated accordingly. This year cut off was low and final cut off will also reduce. Do not correlate last year final cut off and this year marks and come into a conclusion that you need so and so marks to get selected.
DeleteThanks for your response and info sir.Just wanted to know the procedure of total marks calculation after interview.
DeleteAs in the case of many i was also getting worried after hearing from many around me that a score below 70 is not even worth attending the interview. So just wanted to be a bit sure about the fact that even i have fair chance. And after reading ur post and reply i feel confident enough.I hope i make it through.
What about the age factor sir? .Will a senior candidate in age be given preference over an younger candidate with the same marks? (I am 27yrs Old). Also i am a Btech Mechanical Engineering Graduate with about 1 year job experience. Will that be an added advantage?
Age will be a factor if their is tie in marks. Just go across notification, it is mentioned there too. I will share another calculation, your score is 68 in General category. Let us assume another candidate has scored 78. Now you both have difference of 10 marks. But only 80% of written marks in calculated, so his(78) score will become 31.2 and yours will become 27.2, so the gap between you both reduces to just 4 marks. Now if that person scores 60 marks in interview, he will carry 12 marks and if you are scoring 80 in interview, you will carry 16 marks. So the gap is nullified as both of you have same score. If he is 24 and you are 27, so considering the age factor you will be preferred. That's why I said, this time difference will be narrow and everybody has great chance. It is the interview marks which is going to play crucial role. Also the interview marks will include decimal too as the marks are allotted by the interview board of more than 2 member in minimum.
DeleteThank you sir. That really did soothe my nerves.
Deletethanks for ur article,i have low score ,i got confidence with ur article, thank u sir
ReplyDeleteHi admin, first of all I want 2 say that ur reaearch is very geniune, nil hypocritical.thank u very much.one thing u mentioned that one of ur friend could nt join in first round allotment becoz of her pregnancy prob ans subsequently alloted in 2nd round wd syndicate bank, is it really possble.i am interested in this so much becoz I hv also situation like her, I can join only IDBI BANK, becoz I am a working boy and my organisation vl nt leave me unless m alloted wd IDBI bank, plz help me, Gv me the address where c hd communicated regarding this, my chance vl go in vain if m nt allotment wd IDBI BANK. PLZ HELP KE , THANKING U IN ADVANCE AND WAITTING FOR UR KIND CONSIDERATION,
ReplyDeleteDear Vivek,
DeleteReasons need to be valid. She gave a try last year, by sending a letter explaining all the possible reasons for not able to join. It is luck and availability of vacancy by which she was called. Personally when you ask me the reason what you say may not be accepted by the authorities. However, in larger interest, I will share very soon how she managed to send a letter to get allotted in subsequent round.
sir good analysis overall. but i have a doubt. i got 66 and belong to obc category. then marking down to 80 it becomes 26.4. In IBPS PO 2 minimum final cut off was around 58 for 100 marks. it means that even if score 20 on 20 for interview part it comes to 46.4. This means that im out of race. ami correct in my analysis
ReplyDeleteNo. Do not compare last year cut off. It was shared just to show the scenario of IBPS PO 2. Cut off in 2012 was 135 out of 250. To make it simple it was 54% last year, but this time it was 30.5%. Just see the difference. So the 80% portion of written will also come down, making the cut off also to come down. So do not correlate last year cut off with this year marks as I mentioned earlier. In fact I told, this year the difference will be narrow and 66 in OBC is a decent score this year. Just give your best, you will be in.
Deletesir what is this TWSS. im unable to understand it clearly . we all know that each session of ibps PO online papers are unique in their own way, then how can they compare the pool on same level. how are they going to compensate for level of hardness. Is TWSS applied for the present marks or are they the individual marks scored by the candidate in his session paper. Also i have seen that most reserved candidates have scored well-- what about general candidates then? Does this mean that competition is going to be higher for general and comparatively relaxed for reserved ones. Im unable to understand to all these calculations. Please kindly throw some light on detailed interview procedures and how are seats filled up in IBPS PO.
ReplyDeleteTWSS was not done this time, so do not get confused or break your head for this. If you wish to understand that just for knowledge purpose then let me share a link which throws light on this subject. Secondly, it is very common that UR candidates have tough fight and the vacancy ratio increases as many candidates in reservation also fall into the merit list. This in fact makes the cut off less for other categories, as the UR is based on marks. Let me give you an example, let us assume that a company has 10 vacancies, 5 for UR, 3 for OBC, 1 for SC and 1 for ST. Let us consider, for this vacancy about 100 candidates gave written examination and the company has though to call to 30 candidates for interview based on their marks. In the ranking list of the 100 candidates, if the top 10 spots UR spots are equally taken over by reserved and UR candidates, then the cut off for UR will be more as only 5 in the top 10 are UR candidates, the 6th person in spite of good marks may fall out. At the same time, cut off for reservation will come down as candidates in reservation with good marks enter into UR list as a result cut off is brought down. Here is the link to understand about TWSS - bankexamstoday.com/2013/11/how-ibps-tws-is-calculated.html
DeleteSir Iam from Kerala. I got 68 marks in ibps po3. I joined canara bank on Sep 2012 as a clerk. But posting was far from my hometown. So when I got nearest posting from corporation bank I resigned from canara and joined corp bank in December 2012. Iam working as a Swo A for 1 year. My doubt is saying abt canara bank experience will put a black mark for me? Any preference for experienced candidate in interview? Iam 26 old now.
ReplyDeleteIt depends on how you answer it. Just like you many other candidates are going to arrive. If you ask me personally, I don't think it will have more impact if your performance is good. Secondly being a girl it is acceptable if you can answer it adding suitable prefix and suffix. Do not worry, if you think you can hide there is nothing in hiding, if you wish to say, make sure it reaches them softly. Secondly, it is clearly mentioned even in notification that age factor will be considered. In case of a tie, the one who is senior will be preferred.
DeleteThank you sir for ur reply. But one doubt still exist. No preference to experienced candidates in interview? I belongs to general category.
DeleteSince you said that you are already employed in corporation bank, I personally feel that you should have a edge over other candidates. You can expect your questions in interview more or less related to banking industry, your past experience and so on. This should give you immense opportunity to showcase your ability to them, which in turn yields you good mark. But not to threaten you, it may also affect your marks if you fail to answer some basic questions in your day to day banking life from your experience as it gives them a wrong clue that you didn't learn or undergo your training well. It is not to threaten you, but to make you safe. But for sure you have edge over others, but I am not sure whether any special marks are provided for candidates with banking experience.
DeleteThank you so much sir for your valuable suggestions.
Deletesir then how are they comparing each other's marks. isn't it unfair means of comparison. why dint they apply TWSS. i know i did well when compared to my friends who gave exams on other days. Though i cant compare the papers, marks are proof that we are lagging behind in competition. pls reply.
ReplyDeleteDifference in toughness of papers are marginally adjusted this time too. No one knows as of now, why they didn't do TWSS after all it is their policy decision. Filing an RTI can give the solution, but not sure whether IBPS will reply as they have not nominated their PIO till date showing the writ petition they filed in Delhi High court.
DeleteYour analysis is logical and going more deeper into it will show that for UR catagory 75+ CWE score can be said to be safe and 109+ marks means that person will have to just pass the interview.
ReplyDeleteYou are right.
Deletesorry for bothering you so much sir. This is the first time i gave my ibps exam and so i have bunch of doubts here. i clearly understood that TWSS was not applied. so can we expect any changes in final arks before scheduling of interviews as it would affect our marks (out of 80). Also i have a silly doubt - i know that we should wish the interviewer with smiling face and direct eye contact but what if there 5 members in interview panel. Do we need to wish each of them individually. Dont you think it would be rather weird to keep saying " GOOD MORNING SIR" for 5 times like a talking parrot. Pls do answer.
ReplyDeleteDon't go talking like a parrot. If there are 4 male and 1 female interviewers, look each and every one(male) in their eyes firmly and tell "Good morning sirs", and "Good morning madam to the lady interviewer. And while looking, start with the person who appears the eldest in the group.
DeleteOr it can be "A very good morning to all of you".
Keep in mind the old saying, "first impression is the best impression"
Just for a curiosity purpose. Having a job at present increases or decreases the chance? I know that the interview totally depends on our performance but does a scenario exists, where in case of a tie, the person who is not employed at present gets a preference. Sounds a very silly doubt but please answer :)
Delete@Vineeth : According to them both of you are fresher, unless and until you have your experience in banking sector. So having a job or being jobless doesn't going to influence the interview board in anyway. In case of a tie, it is the date of birth which is going to determine.
DeleteFor the anonymous who answered last day at 10.24am the mark is *80 and not*100 for cwe conversion
ReplyDeleteHello Sir, On 9th Dec 2013, You said that u will come with an article related to guideline for interview.
ReplyDeleteCud u send me the link please as Interview is going to start from 2nd January !
I will publish it by today or tomorrow.
DeleteGood analysis Ganesh!! I am sure u have cleared the doubts of many candidates. I just have a query. I have mentioned my name in application as "Karthik Natarajan", but in all my certificates its mentioned as "Karthik N". will this create any issue during interview. Thanks in advance.
ReplyDeleteI hope its your Father name. Clarify it during the certificate verification. It should not be a problem. Even if they find fault in it, there are solution for it. Hopefully it should go smooth.
Deletehi sir thanks article this s deeapk gowda frm bangalore i got 74 and i belong to obc category . i m preparing fr interview ...
ReplyDeletebt i didnt have application which i applied . hw to get it ...and wat r da other documents v need ve
Documents which you need to take during interview can be seen in the notification which can be downloaded even now in IBPS site.
DeleteSir, i have completed my degree in electronics and communication engineering and i have been without job for 2 years .. Will this affect my marks in interview as i am from engineering and dont have any work experience ...
ReplyDeletePls do give some valuable answer
Do not worry. Just give a acceptable answer. It will not affect your marks unless and until you indirectly show that you have inferiority complex while expressing that you are jobless for the past 2 years. Let me tell you something, many candidates who give their Civil Service interview were jobless for more than 2 years or above as their only job is preparation for the exam.
DeleteHello Sir, I have lost my application form which i have downloaded during the time of applying. It is said that the application form is mandatory to bring to the interview. Is there now any way of getting my application??
Delete@ganesh sir cud u give an approx cut-off (cwe+interview)..? is 36-38 possible..?
ReplyDeleteSorry. No speculation.
DeleteCame out with article on IBPS PO Interview preparation. Check it out. Link updated at the bottom of this article too.
ReplyDeleteExpected final cut off (CWE + Interview):
ReplyDeleteUR ~ 38.4 - 67.2
OBC ~ 38 - 65.2
SC ~ 34 - 61.7
So accordingly calculate the min marks that you would require to clear the final cut off.
Good luck!
@ganseh sir i have doubt regarding obc caste certificate...will the obc certificate issued by mandal tahasildar/mandal revenue officer acceptable? please clear my ambiguity regarding this.....thank you...
ReplyDeleteOf course it will be issued by Tahasildar. Not directly, but some counter verification signature's are required from local village officer to few others in the hierarchy.
DeleteThank you very much sir..
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteGanesh Sir,
ur comments and analysis are really good.Just want to know one-thing..In my pdf generated form i have mistakenly wrote the date of my passing as the last date on which i appared. In the certificate the date that was given was the issue date of that certificate..so if they check minutely there will be a discrepecancy....will it be a problem??my score is 75(general)...
No it's not a problem. If you wish you can correct it at the time of verification. So simple as that.
Deletehi,
ReplyDeleteGanesh sir,
i have done integrated BBA+MBA (oil and gas marketing ) 4.5 duration course, will i be eligible for marketing officer scale-I of iIBPS specialist officer. i already filled the form.
IBPS officially haven't thrown any light on it. But generally it is any equivalent degree recognized by the Government of India should be fine. Contact IBPS customer service for confirmation.
Deletein application my name is vihar ayyapuraju in 10 class my name is ayyapuraju vihar is this may become problem for interviews
ReplyDeleteThese are minor issues. Do not worry.
DeleteSir, i belong to OBC creamy layer but by mistake i filled my category as OBC & now i cannot avail my non creamy layer certificate. wil they consider me in general category for interview or reject me? pls sugggest
ReplyDeleteSee your interview call letter. If it is mentioned that you have qualified under UR category, then it can be answered. But if you are selected through OBC then it be a problem.
DeleteSir, I am MTECH in ECE..jobless during last one year due to some new AICTE rule for the recruitment of college faculty.. i am 27 now.. got 71 in gen cwe po written... will having mtech be considerd as over qualification for bank PO job??
ReplyDeleteIt's not a problem.
Deletei am 31 now, obc category scored 92 marks, qualification .B.Tech(IT) 5 years experience
ReplyDeletewhat r my chances in interview
sir mine 60 sc is there any chance po3
ReplyDeleteHi Mr. Ganesh,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your guidance to the banking aspirants community. I have a set of queries, for which I would be grateful if you can throw some light on:
1. Will the interview panel be knowing about the candidates written exam marks? Or it is purposely not disclosed to them?
2. I'm a BE & MBA qualified person with 4 years of work ex. (3 years in marketing & 1 year in software programming) and currently working with Muthoot Finance Regional Office as Regional Marketing Head (Asst. Mgr). So please throw some light on my case, the pros and cons of having this much qualification & experience. Will it be advantageous or not, if yes then how? What kind of questions can be expected (just a rough idea)?
I would need some time and patience of yours, for which I would be thankful to you, to help me out in this, cos I'm damn serious to enter a PSU Bank
3. My interview is scheduled at 8:30AM in the morning, any idea by what time should I get free?
4. Any special tip for my case to crack the interview?
Please note that my score is 92.
Thanks
how 135 converted to 80% become 42.5 i think u r mistakn it will be 135*80/100=54 and intrw he got 40-45 ie 40*20/100=8 n 45*20/100=9.
ReplyDelete90+ in interview is impossible it will be in range 40 to 85
Of course it is 43.2 and not 42.5. Your fundamental calculation is wrong. 135 Scored is for 250. According to your calculation, if a candidate score 250 out of 250, then what is his 80%? Are you telling 250*80/100 = 200?
DeleteHi Ganesh, Im still waiting for your reply on my comment?
DeleteSir, I have been provisionally shortilisted for interview .I still have a doubt that how ill be selected for interview and pls explain me about the interview process.WILL every bank will conduct interview seperately. What will be the cutoff for obc candidates.I was shortlisted for clerk.

i qualified in po3 and my interview is good i hope positive out put.
i am having 2 kids elder was 26 months, and the younger was 7 months.if i got a job can i prefer for home town is they any possibility and what is the process for contacting ibps. as you mentioned in the above statement ( why candidates refuse to join) please guide me
thanking you
prasanna subramanyam
how many candidates are called for po3 interview and what is the no of vacancies
ReplyDeleteprasanna subramanyam
Hello Prasanna Subramanyam, your marks determine the place you will be posted in. For example if you have given Andhra bank and wish to get posted in Andhra Pradesh then you need to be in the top of list which prefers Andhra bank. So at the time of your allotment the aforesaid bank has to be vacant or else your next preference will be allotted. However, getting transfer is not that difficult in public sector banks even if you are posted in other states. Coming to your other point, many candidates refuse to join due to varied reasons. Some might be preparing for Civil Service or SSC, some doesn't want to join a particular bank, some doesn't want to go to other states and many doesn't want to leave their old employer.
DeleteNo of vacancies is not officially released by IBPS. It will be notified before allotment.
