How to tackle new Civil Service Aptitude Test -overview from the new syllabus
The new syllabus for the Civil Service Aptitude Test has been released. Aspirants have started analyzing the syllabus and the pattern which has been declared by the commission. Here I would like to give a brief outline of comparison between the old and new syllabus and suggest you some best ways to tackle the examination.
Comparison of Syllabus
'General Studies' is the paper-1 which was the same in the previous syllabus too. Almost all the portions where in the previous syllabus. Economics was included previously and now social development have been given an additional importance. So while preparing for this part, candidates should concentrate on topics and theories related to social development and also should have a deep knowledge on the present scenario of India in these aspects and various policies which have been put forth to handle.
Also topic on environment have been given an additional importance this time.Aspirants should develop their knowledge on environmental science and ecology.
Paper-2 is entirely different from the old pattern.Choice of choosing this paper have been given in the previous pattern. But now it is a compulsory for all candidates from all discipline. This paper exactly is the actual civil service aptitude test.
This papers consists of Comprehension, Interpersonal skills (including communication skills), Logical reasoning and analytical ability, Decision making and problem solving, General mental ability, Basic Numeracy and Data interpretation, English Language comprehension skills.
This is the actual tool for the commission to test a candidates skills and knowledge. Even though general mental ability was there in general studies in the previous pattern,it was not given a more stress. According to the new syllabus Basic numeracy and data interpretation and the English language comprehension skills will be of class X level. But those who already appeared for Combined Defense Service Examination will know the standard of these type of questions.I suggest you to see the English Paper and Maths Paper of CDSE for better idea.
Marks and Time Management
Previously the paper-1 was for 150 marks and paper-2 for 300 marks.
Both the papers was for 2 hours of duration. So a candidate was assessed for 450 marks in total
. But now the duration of exams is not changed but the marks alloted for each papers have been changed.
Both the papers will be for 200 marks. In paper-1 50 marks have been increased for the same stipulated time. Though the marks is less in second paper, it will a tough task to complete within the stipulated time for aptitude test. Those who appeared for CAT exam or Bank PO exam can guess exactly what I am trying to insist.
Have a strong determination
To me the present change in pattern in simply the best, because civil servant has to be very sharp and accurate in no time to take decisions and the present pattern can some how get good candidates. So its strong determination and courage can take you aspirants to success.
I would like you to share your opinion and suggestions about this topic.
