The present pattern of preliminary exams may change in the coming years. The Union Public Service Commission has given a proposal for changing the present pattern of preliminary exam with an aptitude test to focus on the aptitude of the candidates to meet the challenges of life in administrative service.

UPSC has proposed two common objective papers for preliminary exam. D.P.Agarwal the chairman of the commission said that, " The emphasis is on testing the aptitude of the candidate for demanding life in the civil service, as well as on ethical and moral dimensions of decision making."

However Main examination may remain same until new proposals come from the expert committee which will be soon appointed by the commission.

  3. Since the civil service exam is for selecting candidates for high profile job, the UPSC have decided to change the present stage of examinations into two new common papers which will mainly focus on testing the reasoning and decision making capability of the candidates, also it will have current affairs.
