National
- Telecom Authority of India (TRAI) increased the number of sms per day from to 200 from 100. Note: Regulations were brought recently to control the unsolicited sms sent by tele marketing companies along with DND service which exists already.
- Nabam Tuki has been sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. Note: There was some problem in choosing the Chief Minister after the elections and now this has been brought to end.
- Petrol prices to be hiked by Rs.1.50 per litre. Reason: Depreciation of Rupee against dollar causing exchange rates during the import of crude oil costlier.
International
- Peace deal has been signed in Nepal between the Maoists combatants and the political parties. These combatants will be integrated into the Nepali army to work in the areas of development, industrial security, forest security and disaster relief. They will be integrated individually according to army norms with flexibility.
- The BASIC (Brazil, South Africa, India and China) developing countries have decided to have a common position and stake during the next month climate change conference in Durban. What they decided?: Stressing to extend the Kyoto Protocol and to step up in giving financial and technological support to developing countries.
- Mustafa Abdul Jalil, the head of Libya’s Transitional National Council (TNC) will visit Egypt to have talks for the reconstruction of the country after the civil war.
Business and Economy
- Procurement policy has been approved by the union cabinet to make the government departments and PSU to give preference to micro and small entrepreneurs (MSE) including SC/ST entrepreneurs. What effect wil this have? 20 percent of the annual purchases of all the central ministries and PSU are to be from MSE’s and within that 4percent has to be given to SC/ST entrepreneurs. Notification to all the organization will come under section 11 of the Micro, Small and Medium enterprises development (MSMED) act, 2006.
- 36.3% growth in exports during the month of September.
Sports
- Abhinav Bindra(Shooting) and MS Dhoni(Cricket) conferred honorary Lieutenant Colonel and Deepak Rao(Military trainer/Scientist/Author/Physician) as Honorary Major in territorial army.
- Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif sentenced to maximum jail term of seven years by the Southwark Crown court (London) for spot fixing during the England tour.
Science and Technology
- China successfully launched its unmanned aircraft named Shenzhou-8. This will dock with the Tiangong-1 laboratory launched on September 29, 2011. Reason: Launched to build the country’s first space station. Highlights: China will be the third nation to have space station after United States and Russia.
